The EGR Program was developed to allow homeowners already completing an interior/exterior property improvement project(s) an opportunity for additional exterior property improvements. Only homeowners who have completed an interior/exterior improvement project(s) in 2012 and reside within the boundaries of CBP’s six targeted renewal areas (see below) are eligible to receive the Exterior Grant Reward. The EGR Program does not provide assistance funding towards a property improvement. The funds are clearly designed to provide funding for stand alone projects after an initial project exceeding $3,000 has been completed in 2012.
If you are a homeowner residing within one of the six targeted areas, and you have made or will be making a property improvement(s) exceeding $3,000 in 2012 please download the application and follow the instructions provided. 2012 EGR Application

Read more..On December 19th, students from Lehman Middle School walked the streets of CBP targeted neighborhoods, Fulton Parkside & West Park singing Christmas carols. Their journey began at the Mother’s Memorial Garden in Fulton Parkside and ended at Taggart’s Restaurant in West Park for hot chocolate and goodies. Click Here for a link to a small video montage of the students caroling.
During their caroling excursion, several residents stepped out of their homes to listen to more than 25 students singing holiday favorites like Jingle Bells, Silent Night and Frosty the Snowman. They even took a couple of requests! When asked if caroling had ever taken place in Fulton Parkside, long standing resident, George Poulos responded, “Never.” Mr. Poulos can’t say that now. This hopes to become a yearly event.
This was a great event inspired by the staff at Lehman. The students represented their school very well. The Lehman Middle School Polar Bears should be well pleased. Job well done!
During the Summer of 2011 Lehman Assistant Principal, Jeanne McNeal and two other Canton City School teachers assisted CBP in numerous neighborhood activities through an Inspired Leaders program offered through Cleveland State University. As Assistant Principal, Ms. McNeal took a strong investment in incorporating student activities in CBP neighborhoods. Ms. McNeal and the staff of Lehman Middle School have become a strong partner of CBP. We look forward to the next Lehman student led activity!

Stark County, November 1, 2011
Have you been putting off those nagging repairs to an older home? Does your roof need attention? Do you need to paint your wood siding or trim? Perhaps there are things you’ve meant to do to make your home more energy efficient before winter. The Community Building Partnership of Stark County, Inc. (CBP) has partnered with the Cleveland Restoration Society (CRS) and KeyBank to introduce a specialized maintenance program for owners of older and historic homes that are 50 years old and older. The Heritage Home Program, which is administered by the non-profit CRS, with the support of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and the State Treasurer, provides low interest financing and free technical advice to enable owners of 1–3-unit properties for home rehab. Heritage staff provides in depth assistance to homeowners via site visits, custom construction specifications, historic color consults, and collateral materials. The program will be available throughout Canton, although CBP and CRS will target specific neighborhoods that have historic housing stock: Ridgewood/Vassar Park, West Park, Market Heights, and Harter Heights. The Canton Preservation Society is a partner in the program.
Homeowners can use a 10-year term rehabilitation loan at 3-4% below prime to fund a large variety of home maintenance and improvement projects. Houses that are built before 1961 and have no vinyl or aluminum siding are eligible for both exterior and interior projects. Non-owner occupied properties up to a three family are also eligible. Projects range from new roofs, painting, landscaping, porch repair, additions, window repair, driveways, storm windows, kitchen and bath renovations and much more. CRS staff has made over 2,500 home visits through this program in Cuyahoga County, and they are now excited to announce its availability in Canton.
KeyBank is the lender for this program. There is no out of pocket cost for the loan, no closing cost and no points. The interest from the loan is also tax deductible. Income guidelines do exist to qualify for the loan. CRS’ team of historic rehabilitation specialists can answer your questions about the proper repair and maintenance of your older home ─ at no charge. If you are interested in finding out more information on the program, or to see if your house qualifies contact the Canton Heritage Home Program toll-free at 1-855-897-1949.

A definition of community is “common ownership or participation.” The latest Community Bulletin Board Update truly focuses on the word COMMUNITY. The purpose behind the bulletin board is to provide a way for the COMMUNITY to promote each others events, meeting, activities, etc. through a central, very visible location. CBP wishes we could take credit for the idea but in fact no one can take credit for this project, which truly supports the definition. However, it is only fair that we thank Project REBUILD for the construction of the sign. They did a great job!

Over the past several months Michele Waalkes (artist) and the residents of Top of Summit have been painting a mural located on the corner of Fulton Rd NW and 10th St NW next to the Arts Academy at Summit School. This mural began in October 2010 and has required several hours of development and work. This project is one of six art projects that are in development in CBP’s six targeted renewal areas. Each project is supported by JP Morgan Chase Foundation and ArtsinStark. The goal of this effort to partner local professional artists with residents in each neighborhood to define the image of their neighborhood through displays of public art.
Recently on a hot summer Saturday afternoon, residents of Top of Summit and West Park, as well as members of CBP’s Board of Directors, City Council and ArtsinStark worked together on “Painting Day” to finish the mural. They succeeded! The mural has officially been painted. What started out as just a sketch on paper is now painted on a 150’ retaining wall. The image painted vividly breaks down the neighborhood of Top of Summit from a schematic of the streets to the individuals residing and doing life in the neighborhood.
A celebration and dedication has been tentatively scheduled for October 2011.
